Here's a little something K4, K5 and 2nd grade did. We read the book Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes and the made our names in rainbow colors....super cute!

In "Library" this week, K-4 read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and made coconut trees. So proud of K-4! They did a great job!!

Morning Readers!

We are off to a great start in library! Today was our second day of Morning Readers. At 7:30 every morning, the library is open to students in 2nd through 6th grade for reading, and AR test taking. Here are some pics of our readers!

Fact Families

I've updated my fact families activity. 

The kids LOVE it! It's so great because they can make their own fact families with the numbers and velcro on houses! There are also two different recording sheets...one that can be laminated and one that can be copied in black and white. 

I've asked my students if this helps them understand fact families better and they all said, "oh yes!" YAY!!

Word Work

I love word work. Consistent word work creates such a culture of reading in the classroom.

 

It's hard to see, but this student is writing her word wall words in Play-Doh using a toothpick.

 

 I found a tub of letters at school, the kids made a Boggle board out of them, searched for words, and recorded what they found. The list, in the picture, is the 600 high frequency words.

 

These students are working with Play-Doh, rainbow writing spelling words, word wall words, and the 600 high frequency words. 

 

This is the oil pan thing that my principal wanted me to do, and The Moffatt Girls blogged about.

We do word work for 30 minutes in the morning. I let them choose how they want to work with their words. THEY. LOVE. IT. And their reading has taken off!
